Dr. Kathleen Mojas is a licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years experience working with mind-body stress issues, relationships, trauma, depression, anxiety and addictive or compulsive behaviors.
At Optimize Health Center we focus on the cause of your condition. Some of our patients have a metabolic condition that is aggravated by an altered stress response form the body. We focus on the causes of stress and attempt to regulate the metabolic reactions that are associated with the mechanism. This requires looking at the chemical aspects of stress like toxicity, intolerances, and pathogens. We look at physical causes of stress from damage to the tissues on a cellular level from injury, cortisol (stress hormone from the adrenal glands) imbalances, and poor life habits. Most importantly we look at the emotional aspect of stress and how it can truly hold a patient back from the healing process.
Dr. Mojas is trained in several cutting edge trauma/stress processing techniques, such as EMDR, EFT and Somatic Experiencing. All of these therapies are based on how to tap into the minds innate healing abilities. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) has been clinically validated by 100’s of scientific studies as one of the most effective and efficient trauma healing techniques. EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) has become a highly valued method preferred by thousands of health care practitioners in over 17 countries. EFT is an easy to learn tool that anyone can use to achieve noticeable improvement in symptoms. Somatic Experiencing is a body awareness approach to healing that was developed by Dr. Peter Levine as a result of over 40 years of research and observation.
All of these therapies are based on the understanding that human beings have an innate ability to overcome the effects of trauma and the stress it causes to the body. Over time unresolved trauma, limiting beliefs, resentments and stuck thought patterns cause dysregulation and dis-ease in the body. The goal is to not only heal the traumatic symptoms and suffering but to restore a sense of wholeness and well being.
Dr. Mojas studied for many years with Dr. Daniel Siegel, author of the internationally acclaimed book, “The Developing Mind,” and a pioneer on neurobiology and attachment at UCLA. The foundation of Dr. Mojas’ approach to healing is based on the importance of how our early relationships develop a blueprint for intimacy in our adult relationships as well as our ability to cope with stress and traumatic events throughout our lifespan. The focus of her therapy is aimed at reprocessing traumatic events while increasing the sense of secure attachment and connection to others that can help re-build the kind of self regulation skills that increase resilience and healthy coping strategies.
Dr. Mojas has presented workshops on these subjects and appeared on numerous national talk and news shows. In addition, she has contributed articles and quotes to over 25 publications ranging from Parenting Magazine, the Los Angeles Times and the Journal of couples Therapy.
We use our team approach to identify the underlying cause of the altered stress pattern that starts in the hypothalamus of the brain connecting to the pituitary gland and finally on to the adrenal glands to release the damaging stress hormone cortisol. This hormone causes inflammation over the entire body, prevents us from sleeping through the night, and makes it very hard to get rid of those extra pounds no matter how hard we workout. We are proud to have Dr. Kathleen Mojas as part of our team with at Optimize Health Center and look forward to helping more patients reach “Elevated Health Solutions”.
